Let me tell you a little story about Finders Keepers & how it came to be…
The adventure began in 2012 when Luke & myself left Ireland to go and explore Asia. After six months of sunshine, colours & new faces, we arrived back at our starting point in Bangkok but knew we weren’t ready to return to Ireland just yet. So we hopped on a plane to Perth, Australia!
We both found amazing jobs & began settling in to our new lifestyle. Australia was so much more than blue skies and hanging out at the beach. The culture was so inspiring. So many start ups and independents doing their own thing. Every time we left the house and went to a different suburb we knew we were in for a treat. Retail, cafe, restaurants, & theatres owned by individuals, telling their own stories. It was honestly AMAZING!
After four incredible years, we knew it was time to return home to Ireland. Arriving back to Waterford was wonderful, but it was so lacking in its retail offering. A sea of department stores, we missed the soul & vibrancy of the independents we had grown to love so much in Perth. We decided we would utilise our skills, take a chance and open a store of our own. We wanted to bring some magic to our hometown. Luke is a talented carpenter with an amazing creative eye. My background is in textiles design & retail management. Joining forces in some Batman & Robin type fashion, we would build a space to showcase some of our favourite finds from Australia, Ireland and Europe!
We signed the lease on an old butcher shop in September 2017 & opened the door to Finders Keepers in November! My amazing little sister Beth joined us later that month & has been working with us since. A small family run business through and through!
Now we showcase over sixty small designers & makers in our store! Finders Keepers is the happiest little place in all the land. As one of our customers said to me recently, ‘your vibe attract your tribe,’ and this could not be more true for us. We are a small business with a big heart & our customers are THE BEST!
So that’s our adventure so far 🙂
